Rosh Hashanah at Casa Cornacchi

A group of nice guests from Israel chose Casa Cornacchi as venue to celebrate the Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish civil new year according to the Hebrew Calendar. A simple ceremony took place on the evening of September 29th in our restaurant. Praying and auspicious food (apples dipped in the honey, bread and salt) was eaten before the Tuscan traditional dinner based upon regional recepes. Ribollita with kale and barbecued beef steak. It was an unusual but touching ceremony for our staff as well.

Cooking Class in September

With the end of the high season we started our annual autumn cooking class.

Mamma Daria, our faithful mamma-chef from Ambra, the nearby village, taught passionate guests about her family cooking secrets. She made several toppings for bruschetta, hand made pasta filled with vegetables, pecorino, ricotta and a delicious "pollo alla cacciatora" , chicken stew.

Other cooking classes are scheduled throuhout September and October 2008 and then in April and May 2009.

Well, yes we have to admit it, another season's gone quickly. Predictably days are shorter and nights cooler. Good point is that Autumn will bring the usual nice goodies: crispy, wood parfumed air in the morning, nice colours around, long sunset and... wild mushrooms and truffles! These is the season when most restaurants can finally offer special season dishes and so our cooking school...we'll keep you updated.

Summer Pizza nights

this summer we decided to organize once a week a Pizza night. We have an old traditional wood oven which proven to be perfect for pizza and focaccias freshly made and cooked on the spot.

Guests were enthousiastic. We even "moved" the restaurant tables closer to the oven to have the pizza served just out the oven.

It was indeed :) We hold several weddings each year but the one celebrated today was just perfect. Congratulations to Elaine & Simon for their new life together.

Snow at Casa Cornacchi

Well, these pictures are not really representative as usually Tuscany enjoy a very mild winter although the highest hills may get frost and snow occasionally.

It's nice however to see usual places under a different perspective. There pictues were taken on December 30, 2006.

These are the first pictures taken during the renovation of Casa Cornacchi in 2002. The renovation took almost three years from 2000 to 2003. It was completed in June 2003 when we first open to the public. While the main building (the XVII sec. watch tower) wasn't changed, the main work was to make accessible the steep hill where it was built. After months of landscaping the hill was transformed into terraces and the large pool was digged.
